- Tuesday, November 28, 2023 UNIT 8: WHAT ARE YOU READING? Lesson 1: 1, 2, 3 I. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. identify the situations for the conversations between Tony and Peter (setting, participants, topics);(cognition) 2. ask and answer about what story/book someone is reading, using What are you reading? ?- I’m reading (skills) 3. show their love and pride for reading habbit and respect for others interest in reading by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about what story/book someone is reading. (attribute) II. LANGUAGE FOCUS. 1. Key terms. Ghost story, The Fox and the Crow, Aladdin and the Magic lamp, Snow White and the seven Dwarfs 2. Key grammatical structure The sentence patterns: What are you reading?- I’m reading III. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES. - Textbook: Tiếng Anh 5: Student’s book page 52 - Audios (Unit 8-page 52), - Situational pictures and activity pictures (Activity 2 – page 52) - a laptop and a TV. IV. LEARNING EXPERIENCES *.Warm up. Brain storming: Name some stories you know 1. Vocabulary. - ghost story: truyen ma - scary: dang so - fox: con cao - crow: qua - Magic lamp: cay den than - Snow White: Bach Tuyet - dwarf: chu lun * Checking vocab: Slap the board 2. Look, listen and repeat Ask students to look at the pictures and describe the picture. Set the scene: 1. Who are they? 2. What are they doing? 3. Ask students to listen and repeat after the tape 4. Asks SS to play the role of Peter and Tony to read. 5. Call some pairs to read aloud
- 3. Point and say. Model sentences: What are you reading? I’m reading a ghost story 6. T runs through the cues 7. T goes on asking questions with all pictures 8. Ask students to look at the book and work in pairs practice speaking. 9. Call some pairs to act out - Correct the pronunciation. Activity 4: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (ask and answer about what story/book someone is reading, using What are you reading? 2. What are the core values of the lesson? (show their love and pride for reading habbit and respect for others interest in reading by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about what story/book someone is reading.) - Remind students to do task 4,5,6 in the student book. Aims By the end of the lesson SS will be able to further practice in asking and answering about what story/book someone is reading by doing a listening and a writing test. II. Teaching aids: Textbook, cassette III. Procedure 1.Warm up: Talking S1: Do you read books in your free time? S2: Yes, I do/ No, I don’t S1: What are you reading now? S2: I am reading the fox and the crow. S1: What’s your favourite book/ story? S2: It’s comic book 2. Listen and tick. - Ask Ss to look at the chart and read the name of the story: ( T points to each picture and asks) - What story? - Listen and tick . T plays the cassette twice
- T checks the answer 3. Read and complete. - Ask SS to read the text and fill in the gaps by using the words given. - Guide SS to do the task - Call two SS come to the board and write the answer. - T goes round and help if necessary - T checks the answer.
