- Thursday, January 11, 2024 UNIT11. WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH YOU? Lesson 1. Parts 1, 2,3 I. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. identify the situations for the conversations between Tony and his mother (setting, participants, topics);(cognition) 2. ask and answer questions about common health problems, using What’s the matter with you? – I have 3. Ss share and empathy with their friends by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about their health problems . (attribute) II. LANGUAGE FOCUS. 1. Key terms. arm, headache, earache, sore eyes, stomachache, toothache, backache, sore throat, temprature, cold, matter, should 2. Key grammatical structure The sentence patterns: A: What’s the matter with you? B: I’ve got __________ . III. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES. - Textbook: Tiếng Anh 5 tap 2: Student’s book page 6 - Audios (Unit 11-page 6), - Situational pictures and activity pictures (Activity 2 – page 6) - a laptop and a TV. IV. LEARNING EXPERIENCES *Warm up: - Sing the parts of the body song (My toes, my knees, ) *New lesson: * New words: (write on the boards and give the meaning of new words). +earache: đau tai + headache: đau đầu + earache: ddau tai + sore eyes: đau mắt + stomachache: đau bụng + toothache: đau răng + backache: đau lưng + sore throat: đau họng + temprature: sốt + cold: cảm lạnh - gets Ps to repeat in chorus, individually 1. Look, listen and repeat - Have Sts to look at the picture on page 6 in part 1 and ask them some questions to identify the characters in the picture: Who are they? (Tom and Mummy) What are they talking about? (Tom is tired and his mother brings the breakfast to the bedroom)
- - Tell pls that they are going to listen and repeat. (Two times) - Ask pls to work in groups to take turns to say the lines from the dialogue. - Ask pls to give the model sentences: Mum: What’s the matter with you? Tom: I’ve got a headache =>form: A: What’s the matter with you? B: I’ve got __________ - Ask pls to give other examples to get the form, meaning, intonation, 2. Point, ask and answer. - Ask pls to look at the pictures a, b, c, d, e and f on page 6 and identify the activities in the pictures. a. an earache b. a backache c. a toothache d. a sore throat e. a stomachache f. a cold - Ask pls to practise in chorus. - Tell pls to practise in pairs. - Call some pairs to demonstrate the task in front of the class. - Check Ps pronunciation and offer them when necessary. 3. Let’s talk. - Present the activity. Describe the task: Ss interact in pairs to ask and answer the questions in the activity. - Wrap up. - Inform Ss of the project on p.11 to talk about two health problems and give advice. - - Check comprehension and give feedback. Tell Ss the project deadline. 4. Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (ask and answer questions about common health problems, using What’s the matter with you? – I have ) 2. What are the core values of the lesson? (Ss share and empathy with their friends by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about their health problems) - Remind students to do part 4,5,6 in students book. . By the end of the lesson, pls will be able to ask and answer questions about common health problems. Pupils know how to take care of their health II. LANGUAGE FOCUS.
- Sentence patterns: What’s the matter with you? I’ve got a headache Vocabulary: arm, headache, earache, sore eyes, stomachache, toothache, backache, sore throat, temprature, cold, matter, should Phonics: arm, ear III. TEACHING AIDS: 1.Teacher: fresh cards, CD player, 2.Pupils: Mini-boards, Student’s book, IV. PROCEDURES: *Warm up: - Sing the parts of the body song (My toes, my knees, ) *New lesson: 3. Listen and tick. - Get Ss to look at the picture and tell them the purpose of listening : You are going to listen and tick the correct picture in each number - Ask Ss to look at the pictures and guess what they indicate. - Run through all the pictures (using elicit qs) - What’s this?/ Who’s this?/ Note: 1. a. two children at the zoo entrance b. a girl watching a giraffe c. a family at the lion enclosure 2. a. two children playing with a ball b. two children walking around the zoo to see the animals c. two children going downtown 3. a. a sandwich and a loaf of bread b. a sandwich and a sausage c. a loaf of bread and sausage 4. a. a girl singing b. a girl watching an elephant show c. a girl watching TV - Do the first example with Ss. - Play the recording 1st time for Ss to listen all the way through - Play the recording 2nd time, pause after each part for Ss to have sufficient time to select and tick the picture. - Play it again for Ss to check their answer - Ss trade their answers within pairs or groups for correction - Ask Ss to report the answers aloud to the class. The others listen and give comments. - Give feedback: 1 – a 2 – b 3 – c 4 - b - Make some questions to check Ss’ comprehension 4. Talk . - Ask pls to call the games and sports in the pictures. - Ask pls to work in pairs to ask and answer the qs on page 7.
