- Tuesday, October 10, 2023 UNIT 4 – DID YOU GO TO THE PARTY? Lesson 1: ( 1,2,3) I. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. identify the situations for the conversations between Mai, Linda and Phong (setting, participants, topics);(cognition) 2. ask and answer about someone’s someone did something, using Did you _____? – Yes, I did. / ̶ No, I didn’t. ; (skills) 3. show their great respect for other’s by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about what they did . (attribute) II. LANGUAGE FOCUS. 1. Key terms. go on a picnic, enjoy the party, join the funfair, watch TV 2. Key grammatical structure The sentence patterns: Did you _____? – Yes, I did. / ̶ No, I didn’t ; III. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES. - Textbook: Tiếng Anh 5: Student’s book page 24 - Audios (Unit 4-page 24), - Situational pictures and activity pictures (Activity 2 – page 24) - a laptop and a TV. IV. LEARNING EXPERIENCES Introduction (7’) • Greet Ss. Get the class to sing the song How did you get there? and say the chant Where did you go? • Present Unit 4. Point at the title and read it twice for Ss to repeat. Check comprehension and give feedback. Input presentation 1. Look, listen and repeat. (8’) • Present Lesson 1: Point at the pictures a, b, c, and d respectively to present the story, and explain what each character says. Check comprehension and give feedback. • Play Track 32, pointing at each corresponding speech bubble for Ss to listen and repeat the sentence(s) twice. • Point at each bubble for Ss to read the sentence(s). Sentence pattern practice (full controlled) 2. Point and say. (10’) • Present the activity. Tell Ss the meaning of the sentences in practice. Point at the verb phrase under each picture, check comprehension, and give feedback. Have Ss repeat each phrase twice.
- • Play Track 33 for Ss to repeat twice. • Interact with Ss to ask and answer questions about whether the partner did something. • Get Ss to practise in pairs asking and answering questions about whether his / her partner did something. • Invite a few pairs to check their performance. Further practice (less controlled) 3. Let’s talk. (10’) • Get one or two pairs to role play the story in 1. Look, listen and repeat. • Present the activity. Describe the task: Ss interact in pairs, using the questions and the answers in the activity. • Wrap up. • Inform Ss of the project on p. 29 to discuss what present to give a classmate for his / her birthday. Check comprehension and give feedback. Tell Ss the project deadline. 4. Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (ask and answer about someone’s someone did something, using Did you _____? – Yes, I did. / ̶ No, I didn’t.) 2.What are the core values of the lesson? (show their great respect for other’s by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about what they did.) - Remind students to do exercises in the workbook Tuesday, October 10, 2023 UNIT 4 – DID YOU GO TO THE PARTY? Lesson 1: ( 4,5,6) I. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. identify the specific information from 3 dialouges about what someone did by listen and tick the correct answer; 2. identify specific information by skimming the text about Linda and Tom ‘s holiday; (skills) 2. perform the song “What did you do on Teachers’ Day” in interesting ways, using appropriate and meaningful gestures; 3. show their great respect for other’s by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about what they did . (attribute) II. LANGUAGE FOCUS.

Divide the class into two halves. Point at the pictures in Activity 2, Lesson 1 at random for the two halves to take turns asking and answering the questions with Did you ___? Listening practice 4. Listen and tick Yes (Y) or No (No). (8’) - Present the activity. Tell Ss to read each question, and pay attention to the character’s name and the place. - Play Track 34 for Ss to do the task, and check their answers. - Check answers as a class. - Divide the class into two halves to take turns asking and answering the questions. Tony: I went to visit my grandparents. Reading & Writing practice 5. Read and complete. (7’) - Present the activity. Tell Ss to read the gapped paragraph, and pay attention to the word order, and the context. - Set time for Ss to do the task. - Check answers as a class. - Get the class to read the completed sentences aloud. - 6. Let’s sing. (15’) - Present the song What did you do on Teachers’ Day? Get Ss to read the lyrics, check comprehension and give feedback. - Play Track 35 for Ss to repeat each line twice. - Show Ss how to mime the song. - Get Ss to practise singing and miming the song in groups. - Invite two groups to sing and mime the song. - Wrap up. - Check the project progress. Thursday, October 12, 2023 UNIT 4 – DID YOU GO TO THE PARTY? Lesson 2: ( 1,2,3) I. OBJECTIVES - Pupils can ask and answer questions about what the other speaker did at a party. - show their great respect for other’s by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about what they did . II. LANGUAGE FOCUS. Sentence Patterns What did you do at the party? We _____. Vocabulary had nice food and drink, played hide-and-seek, chatted with friends, watched cartoons IV. TEACHING AIDS - Student’s book, p. 26 - Situational pictures and activity pictures - CD1A, Tracks 36 & 37 V. PROCEDURES Warm up (7’) Greet Ss. Then get the class to sing the song What did you do on Teachers’ Day? / Invite two groups to sing and mime the song. Input presentation 1. Look, listen and repeat. (8’) • Present Lesson 2. Friday, October 13, 2023 UNIT 4 – DID YOU GO TO THE PARTY? Lesson 2: ( 4,5,6) I. OBJECTIVES - listen and circle the letters showing the words completing the sentences. - write about themselves, using the guiding questions. - play the game Tic-tac-toe. - show their great respect for other’s by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about what they did . II. LANGUAGE FOCUS. Patterns Revision Vocabulary Revision III. TEACHING AIDS • Student’s book, p. 27 • Paper sheets for the game • CD1A, Track 38 IV. PROCEDURES Warm up (5’) • Greet Ss. Then get the class play the game Bingo. Use the words: sports festival, book fair, story books, comic books, film, food, drinks, party, and enjoy.
- • When the game is over, have Ss make questions with the words in the game. Then ask and answer the questions in pairs. Listening practice 4. Listen and circle a or b (8’). • Present the activity. Tell Ss to read each gapped sentence and guess the words to complete it. • Play Track 38 for Ss to do the task, and check their answers. • Check answers as a class. • Get the class to read the completed sentences aloud. Key: 1 a 2 b 3 b Audio script 1. Linda: Where were you yesterday, Nam? Nam: I was at school. Linda: What did you do there? Nam: We had a sports festival. 2. Linda: Did you join Sports Day, Mai? Mai: No, I didn’t. I went to the book fair. Linda: Did you buy anything? Mai: Yes, I bought some comic books. 3. Linda: Where were you yesterday, Phong? Phong: I was at Peter’s birthday party. Linda: What did you do there? Phong: We sang, danced and enjoyed the food and drink. Linda: Sounds great! Writing practice 5. Write about you. (7’) • Present the activity. Tell Ss to read the guiding questions, and think about the information to write the answers. • Set time for Ss to do the task. Tell them to exchange and read the answers. • Invite a few Ss to read their writings aloud. Game 6. Let’s play. (15’) • Present the game Tic-tac-toe. Guide Ss how to play the game, (Ref. Tiếng Anh 5, Teacher’s book, p. XVI). Use the questions that Ss have learnt in Lesson 1 and Lesson 2. • Set time for Ss to play the game in groups. • When the game is over, get Ss to read aloud the completed sentences in the game. • Check the project progress.
